At the time, Stitt was regarded by jazz followers with a reverence parallel to that of his close compatriot, the supreme innovator Charlie Parker. In fact, Sonny was very widely spoken of as the inheritor of the throne, fueled by Parker’s visiting a Stitt gig two weeks before he died, and saying, “I’ll give you the keys to the kingdom."
On this phenomenal Stitt recording, Sonny proves he’s worthy of the crown with blazing renditions of many of his classics including, “Ernest’s Blues, "My Mother’s Eyes", and "lt Could Happen To You". This incredible LIVE recording is an essential addition to any jazz lover's collection.
