				Ambrosia Ambrosia Hot Stamper! (Item #: ambroambro_0110_2) by 20TH Century Records Our Price: $124.99 This Hot Stamper copy has two excellent sides, each rating an A+ or better. Side one starts off a bit dark and recessed but about half an inch in it starts to sound much better. (This is very common with records, something to do with the vinyl not heating up toward the outer edges as fully as it should during the pressing process. We hear this effect all the time.) The energy ramps up big time and really gets going after a few minutes. Still, this side and side two could both use more top end and better presence. (The best stampers tend to have a problem in these areas but they are the only ones with real bass and dynamics as noted elsewhere on the site.) We gave side two a grade of A+ to A++. It's very punchy with plenty of tubey magic (check out track two, Lover Arrive, to hear the real Ambrosia magic on side two), but the lack of top end holds it back to some degree. more Info


				Ambrosia Ambrosia Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: ambroambro_0110_1) by 20TH Century Records Our Price: $199.99 This Super Hot Side One has the kind of PRESENCE and CLARITY that is hard to come by on these particular stampers of Ambrosia's first album. You can find copies with those qualities on other stampers, but those other stampers always lack bass. (We don't even bother to pick them up because there is simply no point: this album needs bass and tons of it to sound right. Seriously bass-shy copies can have all the clarity in the mids and highs they want, they still get an F in our book.) Side one here gives you the presence you need as well as plenty of bass to create a foundation for this wildly innovative music. This copy is LIVELY. It gets to be a bit much in a few places so we lowered the grade to A++. When you drop the needle on this side one you will know in a hurry that this one is holding nothing back! more Info


				Andrew Gold Andrew Gold Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: gold_andre_0909) by Asylum Records Our Price: $149.99 About five years ago we wrote in the commentary for his second album that Andrew Gold's first album was his best, that it was a real Desert Island Disc for me and that we would have nice clean open copies on the site soon. Well, it may have taken us five years to pull it off but here they are -- Hot Stampers for Gold's self-titled Masterpiece. And let us not forget that it's one of the best engineering jobs Val Garay (Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor) ever committed to analog tape as well. more Info


				Andrew Gold Andrew Gold Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: gold_andre_0909_1) by Asylum Records Our Price: $99.99 As audiophiles we all know that the sound and the music are inseparable. My comments for this side two note how spacious and present and full of energy it is. After dropping the needle on a dozen or so copies, all originals by the way, you KNOW when the music is working its magic and when it's not. As with any pop album there are always some tracks that sound better than others, but when you find yourself marvelling at how well-written and well-produced a song is, you know that the sound is doing what it needs to do. It's communicating the Musical Values of the material. This Super Hot Stamper side two brings this music to LIFE. more Info


				Art Garfunkel Breakaway Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: garfubreak_1009) by Columbia Records Our Price: $199.99 SUPERB SOUND on BOTH SIDES! We just finished a big shootout for this TAS-list favorite and this original Columbia LP earned some of the highest marks to be given out. A copy like this really EARNS its TAS List credentials. The big testing points for this album are clarity, breathiness, tonality and transparency. The judges were unanimous: on both sides this copy acquited itself beautifully in all respects. more Info


				Art Garfunkel Breakaway Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: garfubreak_1009_1) by Columbia Records Our Price: $149.99 CLOSE to Master Tape Sound on side two! This side two with A++ to A+++ sound was competitive with the BEST we played. It's doing almost everything right, with the kind of energy and presence that really brings this music to life! It's so sweet too; the harmonics of the guitars are reproduced beautifully here. We just finished a big shootout for this TAS-list favorite and this LP earned some of the highest marks to be given out. A copy like this really EARNS its TAS List credentials. The big testing points for this album are clarity, breathiness, tonality and transparency. The judges were unanimous: this side two earned some of the highest marks in the entire shootout. more Info


				Bad Company Bad Company Hot Stamper! (Item #: badcobadco_1109_1) by Swan Song LP Our Price: $174.99 This is a VERY GOOD sounding copy on both sides, rating an A Plus for side one and an even better grade of A+ to A++ on side two. Side one starts out a bit smeary but seems to get much better by track two, so we averaged the grades for those two tracks and came up with A Plus. See if you don't notice the sound tends to get much better by the second track. Good top end extension, transparency and presence are the high points here. more Info


				Badfinger Straight Up Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: badfistrai_0110_1) by Apple Records Domestic LP Our Price: $199.99 This SUPER HOT STAMPER Straight Up is KILLER, with A++ to A+++, the runner up to the best copy we played in our shootout for side one. The sound here just JUMPS out of the speakers, which is exactly what the best copies of the album are supposed to (but rarely) do. The top end is extended and tonally correct; in the midrange the jangly guitars and fat British snare sound are right on the money. The vocal choruses are transparent and sweet. With a little more bass foundation this copy would have been hard to beat for Overall Rock Sound. For fans of the band -- and Power Pop in general -- this is a Straight Up that really gets the job done, (at least on side one). more Info


				Badfinger Straight Up White Hot Stamper! (Item #: badfistrai_0110) by Apple Records Domestic LP Our Price: $249.99 This WHITE HOT STAMPER Straight Up is the new Champion, with A Triple Plus sound on side one. Side one has Master Tape Sound, the kind that we like to call AGAIG -- As Good As It Gets. This copy has PRESENCE in the midrange that no other copy could begin to compete with. The sound here just JUMPS out of the speakers, which is exactly what the best copies of the album are supposed to (but rarely) do. For fans of the band -- and Power Pop in general -- this is the Straight Up you have been waiting for! more Info


				Bob and Ray Throw a Stereo Spectacular White Hot Stamper! (Item #: bobanthrow_0110) by RCA LP Our Price: $299.99 It's been nearly two years but the waiting is over -- we've found another copy of the famous Bob and Ray on Living Stereo with DEMONSTRATION QUALITY SOUND! Without a doubt this is the best sound I have ever heard for side one of this album. The sound here is so amazing I'm willing to go out on a limb and make the following recklessly bold statement. Buck Dance on this pressing has the most extended, natural and harmonically correct high frequencies I have ever heard from my speakers (or anyone else's for that matter). more Info


				Bob Dylan Bob Dylan White Hot Side Two! (Item #: dylanbobdy_1009) by Columbia Records Our Price: $199.99 This is a fairly quiet 360 Label pressing with a side two that is RIGHT ON THE MONEY. We played a bunch of copies recently and this was the side two that just couldn't be beat. The sound is richer and fuller with more extension up top than we heard elsewhere. And that's not all! It's also dynamic, lively, and tonally correct from top to bottom. The clarity is superb and even the harmonica sounds good. There's tons of ambience -- you can really hear the sound of the room around Dylan's vocals. I don't think you can find a better side two no matter what you do! more Info


				Bob Dylan John Wesley Harding Hot Stamper! (Item #: dylanjohnw_0809) by Columbia Red Label LP Our Price: $249.99 ONE THE BETTER SOUNDING COPIES OF THIS ALBUM WE'VE EVER HEARD! We just finished playing a ton of copies of this record, and this Original Columbia Two-Eye LP was one of very few winners, rating A+ - A++ for both sides. Believe us, this album is one tough nut to crack. The typical pressing is a veiled, smeary nightmare. Oftentimes the harmonica sounds particularly squawky and unpleasant. Not only that, but many copies suffer from the kind of condition problems that are so common to these old Dylan Columbia pressings. more Info


				Bob Dylan John Wesley Harding Hot Stamper! (Item #: dylanjohnw_0809_1) by Columbia Red Label LP Our Price: $124.99 This Hot Stamper pressing of John Wesley Harding has two good sides, each rating A+. The energy and presence are significantly stronger than what we heard on most of our other copies. There's constant light surface noise behind the music, but no repeating marks or Inner Groove Distortion. The overall sound is rich, full, and transparent with lots of ambience. It's a nice step up from most pressings out there. We've bought dozens of these over the years and they are usually just plain awful; this one ain't stunning but at least it's musical and enjoyable. Believe us, this album is one tough nut to crack. The typical pressing is a veiled, smeary nightmare. Oftentimes the harmonica sounds particularly squawky and unpleasant. Not only that, but many copies suffer from the kind of condition problems that are so common to these old Dylan Columbia pressings. more Info


				Bonnie Raitt Nick of Time Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: raittnicko_1109) by Capitol Records Our Price: $174.99 This Minty Capitol LP has an AMAZING side one (above A++!) and a very strong side two. Prepare to have your mind blown, because this album sure sounds a whole lot better than I remember it. And that’s a good thing. I have a new respect for this album (along with Don Was’ somewhat heavy-handed production) I never had before. What makes this side two so good? Simple. It actually sounds like ANALOG. more Info


				Brian Eno Before And After Science Hot Stamper! (Item #: eno__befor_1009_2) by Domestic Used LP Our Price: $99.99 This HOT STAMPER pressing has a very good side one (A+) and an even better side two (A+ to A++). Both the top and the bottom are quite good on side two, far better than average. The best pressings had more clarity and sweetness in the midrange but they are few and far between. This side two gets the sound mostly right; it's also the side that appears to be recorded better. more Info


				Brian Eno Before And After Science Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: eno__befor_1009_1) by Domestic Used LP Our Price: $149.99 This SUPER HOT STAMPER pressing has an amazing side one, HUGE and SWEET with the top end that's missing from all but the best copies. Side one has tons of ambience -- so critical to Eno’s soundscapes, no doubt the result of the superbly extended highs. (More about that later.) The midrange was not quite as clear and well-defined as we heard on our White Hot Stamper, but this side one takes the second place prize ahead of all the others. It's awfully good. Side two is very good at A Plus, but suffers from some of the congestion problems and lack of top end extension we alude to below. Play track three for the best sound on side two; it's actually quite good. If the whole side sounded like it we would have to raise the grade, that's for sure. more Info


				Bryan Ferry Boys And Girls Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: ferryboysa_1109_1) by Warner Brothers LP Our Price: $124.99 This domestic pressing has EXCELLENT SOUND on both sides! Side one is BIG and BOLD -- only our White Hot Stamper copy had more presence to the midrange, which means this one put to shame practically all comers. A Double Plus sound signifies a copy that is doing almost everything right. Side two is a little smooth, with the second track sounding just right, which is not ideal as we discuss below. We awarded it a grade of A+ to A++ for its tight bass, overall musicality and many other strengths. more Info


				Bryan Ferry These Foolish Things White Hot Stamper! (Item #: ferrythese_0110) by Warner Brothers LP Our Price: $199.99 AN AMAZING COPY OF THIS VERY FUN ALBUM! We had a nice stack of British copies and this one had an unbeatable A+++ side one backed with a killer A++ - A+++ side two, both on very quiet vinyl. Anyone who digs Roxy Music or Bowie's Pin-Ups is going to find a lot to like here. Check out the cool cover of A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall that kicks off side one! more Info


				Caldera Sky Islands Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: caldeskyis_0210) by Capitol Records Our Price: $149.99 This Super Hot Stamper Caldera album has DEMO DISC SOUND, big and bold, wall to wall and then some! Listen to the monster drum at the opening of Sky Islands -- it’s not deep like the bass drum in an orchestra, but it’s solid, punchy and way up front in the mix where it really grabs your attention right from the get go. It’s the perfect introduction to a band that wants to get in your face and knock you over with the power and energy of their music. The immediacy of the recording is like standing at the front of the stage where the music is its loudest and clearest, exactly where I like to be! more Info


				Caldera Sky Islands Super Hot Stamper! (Item #: caldeskyis_1108_1_1209) by Capitol Records Our Price: $99.99 This Super Hot Stamper Caldera album has DEMO DISC SOUND on side two, A++ (A Double Plus) all the way. Big and bold, wall to wall and then some, with all the energy this music can generate -- and that’s PLENTY! Not only is this a phenomenally well-recording album, it's also one of the best Jazz Fusion Albums of all time, and easily takes top honors in the sub-category of Latin Jazz Fusion. If you like tons of percussion, this is the record for you! more Info
